A strong cold front will move through Friday afternoon, setting up perfect football weather for the blitz and college games on Saturday. Not only will the front bring a major reduction in temperatures, it also packs gusty winds, elevated fire risks, and rough water for boaters.

Today: Morning fog will be far less widespread today, with only a few isolated patches around. The main story for Friday is a powerful cold front pushing through, making afternoon high temperatures a moving target based on when it hits your area. Locations around Baton Rouge and to the southeast will likely warm into the upper 80s or near 90° before the air shifts, while communities to the northwest will see the front arrive closer to midday, keeping highs in the mid-80s. A stray shower is possible along the boundary, but most places will stay completely dry. Once the front clears, temperatures will drop sharply into the 70s. Expect winds to turn noticeably breezy as well, rising from light morning breezes to 15–20 mph by late afternoon and holding steady through the evening.

Weekend Temperature Tumble: The latest Storm Station forecast has knocked temperatures down another notch as the cold front accelerates across the area. Saturday starts off chilly in the upper 40s and low 50s, with afternoon highs struggling to get much higher than the mid-70s alongside a brisk northeast wind at 10–20 mph. Sunday morning brings another crisp, cool start with lows in the upper 40s! While Sunday afternoon will end up slightly warmer than Saturday, temperatures will still top out just shy of 80°.

Friday Night Blitz & LSU Homecoming: Get ready for classic fall conditions across high school and college games this weekend. Thanks to Friday afternoon's cold front, kickoff temperatures will settle right into the low 70s before dropping about 10 degrees into the low 60s by the fourth quarter. You will definitely want a jacket for the stands, and given the brisk, dry winds, bringing along some lip balm isn't a bad idea either.

Saturday calls for the exact same prep. Early tailgaters are in for a crisp morning in the low 50s, but sunshine will bring temperatures up to the mid-60s by the 11:00 a.m. kickoff. Expect ideal mid-70s warmth by the time LSU secures the win!

Fire Weather Danger: Saturday's dry and breezy setup will create prime conditions for elevated fire danger. With humidity dropping to its lowest during the daytime, any stray spark could quickly catch and spread. Bottom line: avoid open outdoor burning altogether. If you are using a grill or handling any open flame outside, keep a close eye on it at all times. A Fire Weather Watch is already active for Saturday and may be upgraded to a Red Flag Warning as the day approaches.

Hazardous Marine Conditions: If you have plans to be out on the water between Friday and Saturday, you will likely want to rethink them—particularly if you are driving a smaller boat or lack experience in rough conditions. A Gale Watch has been issued as strong, gusty winds are set to churn up choppy waters across local lakes and rivers.

Up Next: Following the significantly cooler weekend, temperatures will slowly rebound next week. Dry air will remain in place, however, keeping rain chances generally slim.
