BATON ROUGE - One person was taken to the hospital in "serious condition" after an early Wednesday morning crash that left an 18-wheeler overturned on I-10 near Dalrymple Drive.

The crash, which was first reported around 4 a.m., is blocking both lanes of I-10 westbound between South Acadian Thruway and Terrace Avenue, as well as traffic on I-10 eastbound near City Park.

Around 7:25 a.m., a spokesperson with the Baton Rouge Police Department said that I-10 westbound at Dalrymple would be closed for "several more hours."

Westbound interstate traffic is being diverted from Dalrymple to Lori Burgress Avenue, where drivers can re-enter the interstate.

By 10:40 a.m., I-10 eastbound had reopened. Westbound lanes reopened around 1:30 p.m.

For most of the day, congestion was approaching several miles in both directions, causing major backups across Baton Rouge and beyond.
