The coolest point following the recent cold front passage came this morning. Temperatures will gradually moderate from here on out, but still remain near or just below average. Meanwhile, sunshine and dry conditions will heighten drought concerns, with little to no rain expected moving forward.

Today & Tonight: Following the coolest start since early April in the mid-40s, bright sunshine will push temperatures out of the chill and into the much more comfortable realm. Aside from a few passing high clouds, sunshine will dominate Sunday as highs reach the mid-to-upper 70s. Winds will ease to 5–15 mph from the east-northeast, reducing fire weather risks. With mostly clear skies and winds turning light overnight, another chilly night is in store. Be sure to have a light jacket on hand for the Monday morning drive as temperatures start in the upper 40s to low 50s.

Up Next: Temperatures will gradually moderate over the rest of the week, remaining near or just below average. Mornings will stay chilly with lows in the 50s, but feel free to shed jackets as afternoon highs venture into the 80s. Sunshine will dominate the forecast, interrupted only by occasional high clouds. Even with October’s cooler air, don't skip the sunscreen as the UV Index remains high.

As of now, the Storm Station 7-Day forecast doesn’t feature a single rain chance. With drought conditions continuing to worsen, the lack of rain is an ongoing concern. Dry vegetation does increase the risk of grass fires, so please exercise caution when burning, even in the absence of an official Red Flag Warning.

The Tropics: A non-tropical area of low pressure is expected to form later today or tonight off the southeast coast of the United States. The system will produce tropical-storm-force winds, but the main question is whether it will acquire energy from warm ocean waters to gain tropical characteristics. Subtropical development is possible by midweek, creating a hybrid system that draws power from both the warm water and the clash of warm/cool air in the atmosphere. Regardless of development, the storm will cause high winds, coastal flooding, and dangerous surf along parts of the East Coast. The next name up is Josephine.
