Now pushing three weeks without major rain across the Capital Area, don’t expect things to change in the next few days. Mornings will stay chilly and afternoons warm. However, moisture starts creeping into the area just in time for Halloween, delivering the first real chance to break the dry spell.

Tonight & Tomorrow: High clouds have arrived in large numbers and will continue to move through the region overnight. These clouds will act like a giant insulator, trapping warmth. Instead of falling into the upper 40s and lower 50s, Monday morning lows will settle into the mid-50s. That’s still crisp, but a few degrees warmer than the last couple of nights. The rest of Monday brings filtered sunshine as high clouds continue to pass through the region. Look for a high in the low 80s, though temperatures may end up a degree or two cooler if clouds are thicker.

Lingering dry conditions continue to elevate the fire danger, with multiple parish burn bans in place. Even with humidity rising slightly, please avoid outdoor burning, particularly in the afternoon, and heed local bans.

Up Next: Tuesday will be very similar to Monday, with morning lows in the mid-50s, afternoon highs in the low 80s, and periods of high cloud cover. Expect more sunshine by Wednesday and Thursday, widening the daily temperature spread, but still swinging from the 50s at daybreak to the 80s each afternoon.

Humidity will creep back into South Louisiana on Friday, allowing a muggy feel to return just in time for Halloween weekend. That boost in moisture also brings the first legitimate chance of isolated showers and storms in quite some time. While the precise timing remains unclear, check back later in the week as new data rolls in. It will also be very warm over the weekend, with highs in the mid-to-upper 80s — a few degrees shy of records.
