BATON ROUGE — Liberty Lagoon Waterpark reopens on May 23, BREC announced Wednesday.
The waterpark's reopening will also come with newly refurbished slides and "a renewed focus on safety."
During the 2026 season, the BREC waterpark is furthering its partnership with SELA Aquatics to "strengthen operational excellence, safety standards, and workforce development within the park’s aquatics program."
Liberty Lagoon will be open daily from noon to 6 p.m. through July, with closures on Tuesdays for routine staff training and facility cleaning and condensed hours of 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. on Wednesdays to allow for BREC Summer Camps to use the park. In August, the park will transition to weekend-only operations through Sept. 6.
“We’re excited to turn the page and welcome the community back to Liberty Lagoon,” Janet Simmons, BREC Interim Superintendent, said. “With new partnerships, refreshed attractions, and a renewed focus on safety and service, we’re confident the community will feel the difference this summer.”
BREC added that this season, the park will have a new admission model, with entry fees starting at $12 per person.
"Guests can personalize their visit with optional add-ons for waterslides and the popular Shockwave attraction, offering flexibility based on their preferred experience," BREC said, noting that tickets are for single-day, one-time use.
"We have turnkey management, so we do everything from the water, quality, and maintenance to the training and certification of the staff, and then also the scheduling and ongoing of all the employees and the day-to-day operations of the ticket office and guest services," Rob Dowie, the owner of SELA, told WBRZ.
Last year, BREC updated its ticket policy several times in one month, starting with a July 2025 rule saying each day would be split into two sessions with an hour-long break in between. BREC backpedaled on that choice days later, cutting the per-session entry price in half.
By the end of last year, tickets were only available at the gate, a change that BREC said will not carry into this summer, saying that their online ticketing platform has been streamlined.
"The ticketing process of the summer will be opening 24 hours in advance of each day, so if you wanna buy a ticket to go to the park on Thursday, 24 hours before Thursday, so sometime on Wednesday, the tickets will open up and people will be able to on their phone or their computer and buy their tickets," Dowie said.
