BATON ROUGE — A new exhibit centered around an artist's family's journey from Vietnam to Louisiana is coming to the Arts Council of Greater Baton Rouge's Shell Gallery.

"Shell Gallery Presents: A Refugee’s Origin by K.T.Ho" will present 29 works spanning painting, installation, drawing, photography and collage exploring the long shadow of French colonialism on the artist's family’s history and her own identity.

“I delve into the ways French Colonialism shaped the voyage of my family and explore the complexities of surviving in a dichotomous world,” Ho said. “Ultimately, it is an exploration of abolition and permission: a tale of survival, sacrifice culminating in success and immense gratitude.”

The exhibit's first day at the gallery is April 27, with the exhibit running through May 29. An opening reception is scheduled for May 1 at 6 p.m., with a discussion with Ho set for May 3 at 12:30 p.m.
