GONZALES — Construction on the state transportation department's 5.3-mile-long repaving project along Airline Highway in Ascension Parish is underway, with a road closure set for Saturday. 

The $12.76 million project will patch pavement, as well as install an asphalt concrete overlay, loop detectors and striping, the Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development explains. The project will span Airline between La. 74 and La. 42.

On Saturday, crews will be working on Airline near the intersection with Black Bayou Road from 7 a.m. to noon.
