PLAQUEMINE — City voters in Plaquemine approved tax renewals for 6.2 mills worth of property taxes to fund police salaries and public buildings.

Complete but unofficial returns showed the proposals winning by a margin of 71% and 29% as well as 68% to 32%, respectively.

Each of 3.1-mill property tax proposals would raise $133,000 a year during the decade covering 2027-2036. For a house valued at $100,000, the millage raises $31 a year.

Also, voters in Ward 4 considered a race for constable between Harry "Gil" Banta Jr., who ran without a party affiliation, and Democrat Helen Hall Dotson. Dotson won by seven votes, results show.
