After a hot and mostly dry weekend, showers and thunderstorms make a return Monday as an upper-level disturbance moves across the region. Slight rain chances remain Tuesday, but a much drier pattern returns by mid-week.

Today and Tonight:  Monday will bring a noticeable increase in shower and thunderstorm activity compared with the weekend. The upper-level trough moving overhead will allow scattered showers and storms to develop through the afternoon and evening. Not everyone will see rain, but coverage should be more widespread than we've seen recently. Temperatures will remain hot, with highs in the mid 90s. Any storms that develop should gradually weaken after sunset.

Up Next: Tuesday will still have a few spotty storms, although coverage should begin returning to a more typical late-summer pattern. A front drops south Tuesday night and reaches the Gulf Coast Wednesday night. Behind it, much drier air arrives, and rain chances fall to 10% or less Wednesday.

Thursday through Saturday look especially dry as high pressure builds across the region. Temperatures will still run above normal. By Friday and Saturday, highs should fall into the lower 90s for many areas, with some morning lows dipping into the upper 60s, especially north of I-10.

Tropics: Tropical Storm Fay remains several hundred miles southwest of the Azores. The National Hurricane Center does not expect any additional tropical cyclone formation in the Atlantic, Caribbean or Gulf of America during the next seven days.
