BATON ROUGE - National Gumbo Day is celebrated annually on Oct. 12 to honor Louisiana's official state dish and the diverse cultural traditions behind it.

Gumbo brings together French-inspired roux, West African okra, Choctaw filé and a dozen other distinctive additions. It's a delicious bowl of history.
