A big pattern change is about to get underway. Expect humidity to spike once again as the week progresses. Such a boost in moisture will fuel showers and thunderstorms that could threaten a busy weekend of outdoor events.

Tonight & Tomorrow: Another mainly clear night is on deck. The muggy feel will creep inland overnight, keeping lows slightly warmer in the low 70s along and south of I-10. Northern areas will err on the cooler side, bottoming out in the upper 60s. Daytime warming will transport drier air down, lowering humidity back down to more comfortable levels across most inland areas on Tuesday. Temperatures will stay warm though, peaking in the low-to-mid-90s by afternoon. A spotty shower cannot be ruled out, but many will manage to avoid rain altogether.

Up Next: Humidity will become more noticeable on Wednesday, but the real steam takes over Thursday onward. This will align with a surge of deep Gulf moisture that is expected to stall over the region from late week through the weekend. Most will collect 1-3” as a baseline over the next week, but some neighborhoods will measure more. Most data target areas east and west of the Capital Area for the heaviest rain, but high moisture levels mean downpours are still possible here at home. Locally heavy rain with rates on the order of 2-3” per hour will be possible. That could overwhelm local drainage systems, leading to occasional street and poor-drainage flooding.

Between the Friday Night Blitz, Southern’s homecoming game, and LSU hosting McNeese, there will be many events underway in the Capital Area this weekend. While it probably won’t be raining all the time, odds are low that all three will be unscathed by stormy weather. The Tropics: Tropical Storm Hanna formed in the central subtropical Atlantic earlier on Monday. Expected to remain a weak tropical storm over the next couple of days, the system will steer clear of land as it continues eastward throughout the Atlantic.

Meanwhile, Tropical Depression Fay remains well out in the Atlantic. The system is continuing a southwestward drift and will likely become post-tropical again by midweek with no threat to land.
