An Extreme Heat Warning is in effect Saturday as temperatures climb into the upper 90s with heat index values reaching 110 to 115 degrees. The heat will remain the dominant weather story through the weekend, with very little relief in the form of showers. 

Today and Tonight: Saturday will be dangerously hot across the Capital Region. Temperatures will soar into the upper 90s, with a few locations potentially touching 100 degrees. The humidity will make it feel even hotter, and the Extreme Heat Warning will be in effect from 11 a.m. through 8 p.m.

Rain chances are extremely limited. A stray shower or thunderstorm cannot be completely ruled out, but most areas will stay dry. Overnight temperatures will only fall into the upper 70s to around 80 degrees, so there won't be much opportunity for recovery from the heat.

An Extreme Heat Watch is already in effect ahead of Sunday and may be upgraded to a warning. Don’t expect any changes next week. Heat Advisories are likely as the heat dome remains in place, while rain chances stay very low.

By Tuesday and Wednesday, there could be a slight increase in rain chances. Any rain that does develop will be spotty and won't provide widespread relief from the heat.

Tropics: The National Hurricane Center is monitoring two areas. One tropical wave (92L) in the southeastern Caribbean now has essentially no chance of developing because of strong upper-level winds and dry air.

Another tropical wave in the central Atlantic (94L) has a low chance of development, with a 10% chance over the next seven days. The system could organize slightly before encountering less favorable conditions as it travels westward.

Something a bit more unusual: Tropical Storm Lala is nearing Hawaii and is expected to strengthen into a hurricane as it approaches the Big Island, bringing the threat of hurricane-force winds, torrential rain, flooding, and dangerous surf this weekend.
