HAMMOND — Southeastern Louisiana University's annual Giving Day raised more money and attracted more donors than ever before, according to university officials.

The event, facilitated by the Southeastern Foundation, brought in more than $537,000, a near-six-percent increase over the previous year's total.

"We are appreciative of the remarkable outpouring of support during this year's Giving Day," said Southeastern President William S. Wainwright. "Over 2,700 individuals, a 20 percent increase over last year, demonstrated their commitment to ensuring the continued success of our university, our students and our community."

Led by Southeastern's Office of University Advancement, the event let donors choose a specific college, department, organization or project to support directly.

This year's Giving Day also included a simulcast from the Robin Roberts Broadcast Media Center, done in partnership with the Department of Communication and Media Studies. University officials, faculty, staff and community members spoke live on air about their campaigns and why giving back to the university matters.

"Bringing university and community voices together on air allowed us to highlight the many ways Giving Day supports Southeastern and our students," Sawyer said. "We are proud to partner in an event that not only strengthens the university, but also gives our students valuable hands-on experience in broadcast media."
