Tropical Storm Hanna formed on Monday morning in the central subtropical Atlantic. Expected to remain a weak tropical storm over the next couple of days, the system will steer clear of land as it continues eastward throughout the Atlantic. By the end of the week, Hanna will likely be post-tropical.

Hanna marks the eighth named storm in what has been a historically quiet hurricane season up to this point. Its formation is about three weeks behind schedule, with the eighth system typically forming around September 9. This is textbook behavior during El Niño years, which tends to shut down Atlantic hurricane activity.
