It will still be a hot & humid one on Wednesday, but drier air will move in by the end of the week. This will cause nicer feeling mornings, and more tolerable afternoons. 

Today & Tonight: A weak front moves through the Capital Region on Wednesday, bringing a slight dip in humidity rather than a break from the heat. Outdoor conditions will feel marginally more comfortable than recent days, though it remains noticeably sticky. A spotty shower or storm could pop up along the boundary, but the vast majority of the area will remain dry. Highs will reach the mid-90s, followed by mostly clear skies overnight as temperatures fall into the low 70s.

Up Next: For the 2nd week in a row, we’re getting a brief break from the mugginess starting Thursday and Friday. Expect comfortable starts to the day with early morning lows dropping into the upper 60s. Because drier air heats up and cools off faster than humid air, daytime highs will still climb into the lower 90s. Without high moisture levels, the heat index will stay remarkably close to the actual temperature.

This lower humidity sticks around through Saturday. By Sunday, however, winds shift around to the south, pulling a fresh wave of Gulf moisture back into the region. That return of humidity late in the weekend will set the stage for afternoon pop-up showers and storms heading into early next week.

The Tropics: A tropical wave is about to move off the west coast of Africa. An area of low pressure is expected to form in a day or so, and it could become a short-lived tropical depression on Thursday or Friday. Strong upper-level winds should end the opportunity for development by the weekend. Interests in the Cabo Verde Islands should monitor the progress of this system as gusty winds and areas of heavy rain are possible there by the end of the week.
