BATON ROUGE — The Capital Area Transit System will give a woman a ride after all, after telling 2 On Your Side the CATS on Demand program didn’t service her address.

Lisa Gross moved to the Baton Rouge area from the Chicago suburbs to be closer to family. She is disabled and deaf in one ear, but other than that, she gets around fine on her feet.

“I mean, I struggle, but I’m doing a pretty damn good job,” she said.

Gross would like to be more independent and meet new people. She no longer drives due to personal reasons.

Last November, Gross reached out to CATS to enroll in its CATS on Demand program. If a disability prevents a person from riding a bus, they may be eligible for a different type of transit service.

“CATS told me they couldn’t pick me up in this community,” she said.

This week, there was a change of tune. CATS reached out to Gross and said they’d pick her up. The CATS on Demand map shows that half of Gross’ neighborhood and the front of her subdivision are within the map boundary.

CATS couldn’t elaborate on what happened due to privacy reasons, but confirms it’s in communication with Gross.

This week, Gross received her CATS on Demand ID and says that CATS told her they’d pick her up in her driveway.
