ST. FRANCISVILLE — A St. Francisville man was arrested for intentionally setting his apartment on fire by putting books in the oven, the State Fire Marshal's office said Monday.

The St. Francisville Fire Department responded to an apartment fire along Ferdinand Street on Sept. 24.

After putting out the fire, the department requested assistance from the Louisiana Office of the State Fire Marshal to investigate the cause of the fire.

After investigating the scene, the fire marshal's office said the apartment's tenant placed books in the oven, which eventually caught the building on fire. 

Investigators arrested 42-year-old Jeff David Wyatte McAlpin on Sept. 25 on aggravated arson charges.
