BATON ROUGE, La. — For Louisiana residents who have lived through hurricanes Katrina, Rita, Laura and Francine, the images of another approaching storm can bring back difficult memories.

Over the past three decades, the Pelican State has weathered numerous powerful hurricanes, leaving communities with lasting reminders of the importance of preparedness.

Retired Lt. Gen. Russel Honoré, who led military response and recovery efforts following Hurricane Katrina in 2005, says those lessons remain critical.

Although Isaias did not make a direct hit on Louisiana, Honoré is urging residents to remain vigilant and prepare for the possibility of another storm threatening the state before the end of hurricane season.

“Work on your preparedness list. Have three to five days food, water,” Honoré said.

He warned that another hurricane could develop in the Gulf of America and intensify, potentially bringing significant damage to coastal communities.

“This thing will go through the end of October, early November, before the end of hurricane season. We could have another one pop up in the Gulf just like this one,” Honoré said.

Honoré pointed to Hurricane Katrina as a reminder of the destruction a Category 3 storm can cause.

“Remember, Katrina hit landfall as a Category Three, and we know the damage it did,” he said.

Honoré's warning serves as a reminder that residents should monitor forecasts, review emergency plans and stock up on essential supplies.
