BATON ROUGE — A Scotlandville Magnet High School student was arrested for attempted murder after he allegedly shot at three of his younger classmates after school, hitting one of them in the arm.

According to an arrest affidavit from the Baton Rouge Police Department, a 15-year-old student intervened in a school fight between Byron Martin, 17, and another student. The document says the 15-year-old pulled Martin off the other student and choked him to subdue him. Both were suspended and sent home from school early.

Later that day, the 15-year-old was walking to a store on Fairchild Street with two of his friends, 13 and 14 years old, documents show.

When they got to the intersection of Fairchild and Elm Grove Drive, the three ran into Martin and another person wearing all-black clothing and Nike ski masks, the affidavit says.

That's when Martin allegedly yelled, "There he go!" and opened fire, shooting the 15-year-old in the arm. His two friends were not hit.

On March 31, a BRPD officer executed a search warrant at Martin's house. There, the officer found 9mm ammunition hidden in Martin's closet and a loaded barrel magazine in his backpack, but no gun, according to the affidavit. In a car behind the house, the officer found a black hoodie and black Nike ski masks.

Martin was arrested and booked into the East Baton Rouge Parish Prison on three counts of attempted first-degree murder and one count of illegal use of weapons.
