HAMMOND — Campus police urged students to stay alert after an attempted carjacking near Southeastern Louisiana University.

According to student newspaper The Lion's Roar, the university police department issued an alert notifying students that an attempted carjacking happened near North Oak Street and Whitmar Drive around 1:45 p.m.

A screenshot of the alert shared by the newspaper says the suspect ran away in an unknown direction. 

Police reminded nearby residents to stay vigilant and call 911 to report suspicious activity.
