BATON ROUGE - Republican State Senator Blake Miguez and Democrat Chauna Banks are headed to a runoff election where voters will decide who the next U.S. Rep. for Louisiana's 6th Congressional District will be.

Banks served on the Metro Council from 2013 to 2024. During WBRZ's candidate forum, Banks said that she is concerned about the Iran war's effect on prices for consumers.

Miguez currently serves State Senate District 22, which includes parts of Iberia, Lafayette and New Iberia parishes. His home address was called into question during the race, with a formal complaint lodged against him for allegedly living outside of his district during his campaign. The attorney general's office investigated and said it found his primary residence is in New Iberia even though he has a home in East Baton Rouge Parish.

The candidates are vying for a seat vacated by Democratic U.S. Rep. Cleo Fields who announced he would not be seeking re-election at the end of a redistricting fight that left Louisiana with a single majority-minority congressional district.

Miguez and Banks beat Republicans Rick Edmonds, Larry Davis III, Monique Appeaning, Michael Mebruer, Stephen Wagley, Democrats Lindsay Garcia, Pat Forbes and Libertarian Rufus Craig.

Voters will return to the polls on Saturday, Dec. 12.
