Students at Tanglewood Elementary in Central meet George Washington
CENTRAL — Students at Tanglewood Elementary in Central met some special guests on Thursday.
One guest happened to be State Superintendent Cade Brumley met with students, along with "George Washington" and men from The Louisiana Society of the Sons of the American Revolution who gave an in-person history lesson for Freedom Week.
“In the state of Louisiana, we really put a stake in the ground and we wanted to make sure kids understand the history of their country,” Brumley said. “The civics that governs that and the result of that, you are seeing proficiency rates in civics and history in the state of Louisiana really jump up in a positive direction.”

The history lesson brought to life focused on U.S history, with the members of the Louisiana Society of the Sons of the American Revolution explaining to the children what their period regalia and artifacts meant at that time.
