After intense heat for the last several weeks, heat alerts will take a break for most of this week. In its place will be more storms, primarily in the PM hours. 

Today & Tonight: Tuesday morning will start off mild and quiet with temperatures in the mid-70s. The first half of the day will feature a lot of sunshine, with isolated showers and thunderstorms possible in the afternoon. Not everyone will get wet today, but some could see heavy rain and gusty winds. Highs will reach the mid-90s, with a heat index close to 108°, though it may stay just below the mark needed for an official Heat Advisory. Overnight, lows will will reach into the upper 70s.

Up Next: Expect a warm, sunny start to Wednesday before scattered pop-up afternoon thunderstorms roll through to cut the heat. Rain coverage bumps up Thursday as an upper-level disturbance swings by, sparking numerous rain and storm activity. Storm chances dial back by the weekend, with isolated coverage expected. Total rainfall over the coming week should average 1 to 2 inches, though isolated spots could see up to 3+ inches.

The Tropics:

An area of low pressure located a couple of hundred miles east-northeast of Bermuda is moving northward at 15 to 20 mph. The center of circulation is broad and elongated, and the associated shower activity remains disorganized. This system could still become a short-lived tropical depression or storm later today before encountering increasingly hostile conditions tonight and Wednesday.

Meanwhile, an area of low pressure centered a few hundred miles south-southeast of the Cabo Verde Islands is producing disorganized showers and thunderstorms. Environmental conditions appear conducive for gradual development, and this system is likely to become a tropical depression during the next few days while it moves westward to west-northwestward across the eastern and central tropical Atlantic. Environmental conditions could become less conducive for development by the weekend.
