OXFORD — For the first time, WBRZ took Tailgate on 2 on the road to Oxford, Mississippi, for LSU and Ole Miss’ showdown at the Grove.

Among the sea of red and blue, LSU fans set up their own piece of home through Cajun Tiger Tailgating.

"Tailgating on the road, I mean y’all get some looks, but you know LSU fans are loud and obnoxious anyway, and you know we're just gonna be ourselves, and if you don't like it, I mean, I don't know what to tell ya," Tiger fan Hayes Green said.

LSU fans on the road said being away from home turns strangers into a club. The Grove itself became one of the busiest tailgate scenes of the day, covered in tents from end to end.

"We are the definition of Southern hospitality. Anybody can come in. This guy can come in right here. He's now part of the family. He's now part of the tailgate, and we don't even know him," Ole Miss student Alex Glasser said.

One of the more notable traditions at Ole Miss tailgates is the chandelier, something that dates back decades. Ami Jo Jean of The Rebellion Tailgate explained that back in the 1950s and 1960s, people could drive into the Grove and park, but after a bad storm in 1991, that stopped, and tents became the norm.

"So they decided just to make it home," Jean said.

Still, LSU fans were quick to make clear where they think the better tailgate scene is.

"Look, I'm not gonna lie to you, I'm falling asleep. This is pretty bad. This is pretty pitiful. You take it down there about five hours south, it gets a little better," LSU student Sawyer Clark said.

Despite the friendly disagreement, fans from both sides agreed that a great game day starts with a great tailgate.
