BATON ROUGE — Woodlawn Middle School put a festive spin on science and technology education Thursday evening, opening its doors to the local community for its "Spooky STEM Night."

The Halloween-themed event featured interactive, hands-on stations designed to highlight what the school's STEM magnet program offers prospective students and families. Attendees included visiting students from Parkview Baptist and Shenandoah Elementary, who explored the school's facilities and took part in the scientific demonstrations.

Magnet Coordinator Raina Spurlock explained that the goal was both to connect with the community and to attract younger students to Woodlawn's academic pathway.

"Our students have been working very, very hard—our science students and STEM magnet students—to put this on for our incoming prospective students," Spurlock said. "We hope this community event will be a success and something we hope to keep going for years to come."
