BATON ROUGE — The Baton Rouge Police Department has released body camera footage after an officer shot a man who was threatening people in an apartment complex while holding a rifle along Harding Boulevard.

On Sept. 6, officers were called to the Jaguar Plaza apartment complex along Harding Boulevard, across the street from Southern University's Baton Rouge campus, shortly before 6 p.m. When officers arrived, they located the man sitting in a chair with a firearm. 

Officers gave several commands for the man to drop the firearm before he allegedly stood up with the weapon pointed towards officers, causing a responding officer to fire a single shot, striking the man in the hip area, according to the department.

The man was later taken to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
