Jefferson Parish deputy fired after allegedly using Flock cameras to track ex thousands of times
GRETNA — A Jefferson Parish deputy was fired after allegedly using Flock cameras to track his ex's location thousands of times over the last several years, WWL reports.
The deputy, identified as Nathan Rome, tracked the same license plate more than 3,000 times in the department’s Flock system. The sheriff's office spoke with the deputy, who admitted that the car belonged to his ex-fiancée, WWL learned.
She did not file a criminal complaint and told investigators the deputy had never appeared at the same location as her after checking her license plate.
However, “that doesn’t make it okay,” said Sheriff Joe Lopinto at a news conference Wednesday, adding that Rome was fired at the end of the investigation.
Rome is not facing charges, however, WWL reports.
Lopinto said that, despite periodic audits of Flock searches, the system is not well-equipped to spot abuses like this. WWL added that the sheriff said the department "is working with Flock to establish better safeguards against abuse in the future."
