BATON ROUGE — The U.S. Department of Justice’s Office for Victims of Crime has awarded a $1 million grant to the Louisiana Attorney General’s Office to establish a comprehensive statewide response to technology-facilitated abuse.

The federal funding will support a major initiative aimed at identifying and assisting survivors of rapidly evolving digital crimes—including sextortion, nonconsensual dissemination of intimate images, AI-generated deepfakes and cyberstalking.

"Attorney General Liz Murrill’s Office has been a leader in investigating and prosecuting cybercrimes in our state," Kurt Wall, U.S. Attorney for the Middle District of Louisiana, said in a prepared statement. "We are pleased to see that this award will be used to assist the victims of those heinous criminal acts."

Attorney General Liz Murrill emphasized that the funding targets modern digital threats head-on.

"These funds will help establish Louisiana’s very first statewide multidisciplinary protocol to serve victims of technology-facilitated abuse," Murrill said. "Initiatives like these strengthen real-time collaboration among prosecutors, law enforcement, and victim services."
