KILLIAN — The town of Killian's newly established police department has hired its first officer: a former Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff's deputy who was fired in 2024 for conducting a raid without a search warrant.

Randall Kelley was sworn in at a town council meeting and is now the first officer hired under Killian Police Chief Vicki Corkern.

Kelley was fired from the Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff's Office after video surfaced showing him conducting a raid without a search warrant. Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff Gerald Sticker said he reviewed the video himself and fired Kelley the next day.

Records obtained by WBRZ from the Louisiana Peace Officer Standards and Training Council or POST, show this is Kelley's first law enforcement job in Louisiana since he was fired. The records also show Kelley has not completed annual in-service training through Louisiana POST since 2024, which is required for peace officers.

The Killian Police Department was established in June when voters approved a sales tax to help pay for a full-time police presence in the town. Before that election, Corkern told WBRZ she planned on building a strong and trustworthy police force.

Killian Mayor Caleb Atwell told WBRZ he was unavailable for an interview. In a statement, he did not address Kelley's previous firing but said he is glad to see the police department growing, calling it what Killian voters wanted.

WBRZ also reached out to Chief Corkern and all five Killian aldermen. None of them were at town hall when WBRZ visited, and two who answered phone calls declined to answer questions. The others did not return calls for comment. Kelley could not be reached for comment.
