BATON ROUGE — A man is wanted following a fatal hit-and-run that left a 35-year-old man dead in July.

According to officers with the Baton Rouge Police Department, on July 11, around 1:20 a.m., a white 2012 Honda Accord was blocking the right lane of Scenic Highway as the front tire was flat.

The driver, identified as Travis Barconey, allegedly exited the vehicle before being struck by a passing vehicle. He was later pronounced dead on the scene, with the driver of the vehicle fleeing prior to officers' arrival. 

On July 27, detectives received surveillance videos that depicted a black Chevrolet SUV with two working headlights passing through the area. After the vehicle passed through the crime scene, it was seen with visible front-end damage, with the right headlight no longer working. 

Detectives later received a tip leading to the discovery of the suspect vehicle at a body shop on Ardenwood Drive. The vehicle was towed to a secure shed for evidence processing, where detectives took DNA swabs from the front right quarter panel, which was found in the trunk.

On Sept. 11, detectives received a report from the Louisiana State Police Crime Lab that matched the DNA to Barconey. 

During the investigation, detectives were contacted by the attorney of Robin Taylor, the registered owner of the vehicle. On Aug. 7, Taylor went to the Baton Rouge Police Headquarters to give a statement; however, after being mirandized, no statements were provided. 

On Aug. 14, a warrant led to the receipt of cell phone records, which showed that Taylor's phone was in the area at the time of the crash.

Taylor is wanted for hit-and-run driving death or serious bodily injury, and obstruction of justice.
