Warrant issued for Baton Rouge man who allegedly set house on fire over card game argument
BATON ROUGE — Police issued an arrest warrant for a Baton Rouge man accused of setting a house on fire after an argument over a card game.
According to the warrant, Melvin Lane, 34, was playing cards at a home along N. 39th Street.
The homeowner told police that Lane got angry when he lost the game and left the house, documents show. Lane came back an hour later, the warrant says, and flashed a gun while continuing to argue about the game.
He then allegedly closed the door and yelled, "I'm going to burn this b— down."
About 20 minutes later, the homeowner smelled smoke and realized his house was on fire.
According to the warrant, Lane pulled a plastic vehicle cover off a car in the driveway and, combined with pieces of wood and trash, set it on fire in a corner on the outside of the house.
