BATON ROUGE — A Baton Rouge woman was arrested after she allegedly set fire to her father's home on Sycamore Street with her boyfriend and his daughter still inside.

Iris Wright, 39, was booked into the East Baton Rouge Parish Prison on Thursday for aggravated arson.

According to an arrest warrant, the Baton Rouge Fire Department responded to a house fire Sept. 4 around 9 p.m. on Sycamore Street. At the scene, investigators determined the fire was arson.

The homeowner, Wright's father, reportedly said his daughter, her boyfriend and her boyfriend's child had been living in the home, but were not at home at the time of the fire.

The arrest warrant states that four days later, Wright's boyfriend contacted police and told them Wright had started the fire due to an ongoing argument between the two.

Police say when Wright's boyfriend left the home, his daughter called him and told him to come home because Wright was throwing around his belongings and she had a gas can. The daughter said Wright told her, "If you want anything, you better get it cause there not going to be a house."

The arrest warrant says that when her boyfriend made it home, his daughter was gone, and Wright was gathering her things and leaving.

As Wright's boyfriend was waiting on the couch for Wright to gather her things, he started to notice the smell of smoke and walked into the kitchen to find a blanket sitting on a gas stove with all the burners on, according to the warrant.

He reportedly tried to extinguish the fire with an outside water hose, but he was not successful due to the heat.
