WEST MONROE — FEMA has approved more than $162.8 million in post-disaster funding for communities in Louisiana, New Mexico, Oklahoma and Texas.

The money is being distributed through two programs: the Public Assistance program and the Hazard Mitigation Grant Program.

The bulk of the funding, $160.4 million, falls under the Public Assistance program. That money covers repairs to critical infrastructure, restoration of public buildings, road repairs and reimbursement for costs tied to public health and safety after a disaster.

More than $1 million will go to Louisiana for debris removal in West Monroe after this year's winter storm.

FEMA is also awarding more than $2.3 million through the Hazard Mitigation Grant Program for projects designed to prevent or reduce future disaster damage.

Louisiana is receiving $2.5 million for a comprehensive stormwater and drainage master plan to increase drainage capacity and reduce flood risk in Lafourche Parish.

FEMA noted that funding for these projects is administered through the Stafford Act and is separate from Hermit's Peak/Calf Canyon Fire compensation in New Mexico.
