Former Port Allen mayor dead at 65 before scheduled trial, officials confirm
PORT ALLEN - A former mayor of Port Allen died at the age of 65, the Port Allen Police Department confirmed to WBRZ.
Derek Lewis, 65, died Thursday night. No other details were immediately available regarding his death.
Lewis was set to go to trial after being arrested for indecent behavior with a juvenile and third-degree rape. He was also sentenced in 2012 to 40 months in prison and two years of probation after pleading guilty to racketeering.
