HAMMOND — A Hammond man was arrested for allegedly using a fake online vehicle sale to lure a woman so he could rob her.

Jericho Offlee, 28, was booked into the Tangipahoa Parish Jail on one count of first-degree robbery.

A woman from the Baton Rouge area reported that she connected with a man through social media to buy a used vehicle on Tuesday, according to the Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff's Office. She picked the man up at an address in Hammond before he directed her to Dead End Road, TPSO said.

There, he allegedly tried to steal her car and several other belongings, but she was able to get away. 

Investigators identified Offlee as the suspect with help from the Hammond Police Department. TPSO Street Crimes and SWAT units located and arrested him overnight.

TPSO said this may not be Offlee's only case. They believe additional victims have not come forward due to fear of retaliation or legal consequences tied to how they first made contact with Offlee.

The sheriff's office asked anyone, especially women from the Baton Rouge area, who experienced a similar encounter in the past few weeks to contact the TPSO Criminal Investigations Division.
